I remember exactly that moment of strolling through Edinburgh for the first time: there was magic in the air, and I never stood a chance against the charms of the city: I fell head over heels in love. How beautiful can a city be? Edinburgh is definitely among the most beautiful towns I have ever been to in my life, and I recommend a visit from the bottom of my heart – especially if you’re big Harry Potter fans like myself. In Edinburgh, you dive right into the mythical world described in the books. I love the medieval, romantic charm, the buildings adorned with little towers, the maze of little alleys. Yes, I am in love!

The city constitutes the second largest economic force in the UK (while being considerably less expensive than London!), and the level of eduction among its inhabitants is exceedingly high. It’s a perfect destination for a weekend excursion, and not only for its most famous sights like Edinburgh Castle and the Scottish National Gallery. With so much to discover, I thought I’d compile 5 tips for things to do for you, for whenever you get the chance to visit this fantastic place.
I shot all my outfits in this post in Edinburgh – the city is just perfect for outfit shoots. The autumn vibes in the city, so reminiscent of Hogwarts, are a perfect match for me. Peek & Cloppenburg offers a wide range of garments with these pretty checkered patterns, which are also highly suitable for business outfits, along with wonderful college looks. (There are two independent companies Peek & Cloppenburg in Germany with their headquarters in Düsseldorf and Hamburg. This is a blog post released in cooperation with Peek & Cloppenburg KG, Düsseldorf. Its store locations can be found on www.peek-cloppenburg.de). I’m completely into logo sweaters and cord textiles right now, and checkered patterns have been a staple of my winter wear for many years. I found the collections by Polo Ralph Lauren, Jake’s and Tommy Hilfiger to be absolutely perfect for the romantic backdrop that Edinburgh provides. Now that I had to leave Scotland behind again, memories of this wonderful trip still flare up in my mind, and I indulge them gladly, thinking with melancholy of Edinburgh – the city that stole my heart.

Victoria street Streets simply don’t get more photogenic than this. Victoria Street is among the most photographed streets in Edinburgh, and for good reason! It’s colorful, winding and packs all the charm of a medieval alley that invites you for a stroll. A perfect photo location. A bunch of nie souvenir shops, the Harry Potter Store and a great breakfast café round off an already amazing package.
Hula Juice Bar Talking about great breakfast: I loved the healthy morning treats offered at Hula Juice Bar! Juices, Avocado Toast, Granola – all served in a highly Instagramable setting. Perfect for a healthy and visually appealing start into the day!

Looking for souvenirs? The old church right at the Royal Mile, Tron Kirk, houses the Royal Mile Market, with tons of great souvenirs on offer, ranging from cool prints by Scottish artists to self-made organic beauty products, jewelry and fashion by smaller labels. Don’t miss out on this great atmosphere and go on a treasure hunt among all the pretty stalls – its a real treat!

[parallax-scroll id=”59496″]Vodoo rooms The legendary Voodoo Rooms were recommended to me by more than one friend and acquaintance, and now I know why: at late hours, this bar is a genuinely magical location, entrancing you with spacey cocktail recipes in an even more spaced out setting. The luxury of bygone days seems alive here, and the atmosphere, which distills the excessive days of the 1920s is really quite indescribable.
Farmer’s Market If you planned your trip over a weekend, be sure to check out the Farmer’s Market right in front of the scenic Edinburgh Castle, open every Saturday. Tasty fresh bread, chocolate and regional treats will make it easy to indulge. Yummy!
