Every year the same problem on Christmas and New Year’s Eve:
What to wear?
A few days ago I was in the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in Berlin and talked about this problem. It’s difficult: on the one hand you want to feel comfortable, on the other hand it should be festive and special. Not that easy to find the perfect style so I have a few advices to make your choicer easier. Of course I also shopped my perfect outfit in the Designer Outlet. The atmosphere was amazing, pleasant and christmassy.
4 tips for the perfect festive dinner outfits
Let’s start with the most basic tip: the layering style is not only stylish, but also comfy. You’re always perfectly dressed for every occasion and climate. Typical situation: it’s cold outside, you’re still freezing, but after the second glass of wine it’s getting hot.
My advice: instead wearing a warm sweater with a tank top, go for a blouse and a cardigan. That looks more elegant and is very convenient as well.
I wear a grey high-stretch velvet blazer. This one is not only comfy, but elegant at the same time.
Be careful with white and monotonous tops
This is my very personal, maybe unglamorous tip: be careful with bright and monotonous tops at dinner! Something always can go wrong or splash, especially when it comes to food, so it is always a bad idea wearing a top, where you can see stains well and where they are difficult to remove, so I prefer either a patterned or a dark top (eg a black blouse) or having a stain remover on the go. So you won’t get too angry, if something goes wrong.
I wear a black pleated top on which you would not see stains too well thanks to the color and the material.
conservative instead of sexy
This tip is more for Christmas than New Year’s Eve, especially when you see your mother-in-law again. Of course everybody prefers to make a good impression, so I would advise to dress not to too sexy, so that the older, religious generation doesn’t feel affronted.
I also took care that my outfit is festive, but not too sexy.
Stay in the limits of your comfort zone
The most important thing is, that you feel good in your clothes. I always advice to stay in your comfort zone, but go to the limit. This is the way to discover something new, but still stay true to yourself and feel good. Especially on Christmas and New Year’s Eve it’s an particularly important point, so you do not feel disguised.
If, for example, you are not the type who likes to wear sequined dresses, you can try to wear individual sequins on the shoulders or a sequined blazer. In general, it is often enough, if the clothes are more basic and you combine your outfit with fancy accessories.
My personal allrounder tip is the jumpsuit. With that you are always perfectly dressed, never under- but also not overdressed. In addition, statement shoes or a glitter bag and you have a perfect style. For example, I barely wear glitter, so I decided to wear a shiny blazer in my favorite color and eye-catching shoes. Because in the end the best outfit is the one you feel comfortable with.
