Because when you stop and look around, life is pretty amazing
..and suddenly it was February.
How fast did the first month of the year pass? I can’t believe it’s already February. Well, on the other hand, when I look back I see how much has happened. My trip to Cape Town feels like ages ago. Crazy.
This week I was on the road in Scandinavia, in Stockholm and Copenhagen, to be more precise. I headed up to attend the Fashion Weeks in both cities. I really have a soft spot for Scandinavian fashion, so I was very excited to go. I didn’t expect too much – the trip was fantastic. I am particularly smitten with Stockholm right now. What a city! I shot some great pictures there, and am buzzing to show you soon. I feel really inspired these days, and can’t wait to share a couple more outfits with you guys.
Well, as beautiful as the trip was, I am also very happy to be back home. Sometimes there’s nothing nicer than just living every day life. I’ll finally get the chance to sleep in! Plus, it’s going to feel great to have a Sunday without anything on the agenda. Ever since we returned from Cape Town there was not a single day without some kind of action, which is a bit of a strain on my book-keeping, my relationship and my health. I’m just happy to be home for a few days!
Next week will be all about Scandinavian fashion on the blog. I will have time to post a bit more, which is great, because I realize more and more that writing is one of the things in lige that really make me happy. I have also understood that I really want to keep defining myself as blogger. So, don’t get used to the low posting frequency, January was a month of relative downtime on the blog, but that is about to change.
The truth is, I have been bursting with ideas and motivation for many weeks, but just didn’t have time to get everything done at once. I’m going to travel a bit less in the weeks ahead, and will focus on life and work in Berlin. Berlinale is just around the corner, and of course I’ll dive right in. Hopefully I’ll be able to tell you some great stories afterwards. But first things first – I have some great stuff from Scandinavia for you!
I was really moved by the story of my blogger colleague Kim (@Vorstadtprinzessin), who was recently diagnosed with malignant breast cancer. It’s a real tragedy that overshadows all the superficiality we tend to deal with in our blogging universe.
Kim’s story made me realize once again how unbelievably insignificant the problems I am confronted with in my daily life are, how ridiculously small. Health is really our greatest wealth. Kim is a very string younf woman, and she’s willing and capable of winning this fight. She shares her story with her followers on social media, and to see how she faces the battle is incredibly touching. It also made me realize again how sadly prevalent cancer is.
Kim, I believe in you! #kimscrew

It feels like the whole world is going nuts because of the US government. Where is this going to end? Trump has been in office for merely 2 weeks, and everyone is losing it. The topic is inescapable, from the tasteless cover of the latest issue of Spiegel magazine (a German news magazine), to my Facebook feed that’s turned into a Trump-news ticker to the bits of half-knowledge that are spreading everywhere – the American president is omnipresent in the media. I’m starting to feel that we’re losing track of our own domestic politics – and that is very worrying. This year is a major voting year, after all, and I can’t help wondering whether we’ll see momentuous political changes in Europe as well. It makes me sick to imagine that our society becomes less tolerant, to envision us more divided instead of more united.
My friend Lisa said the other day that we alwas have to fight for democracy, and I agree with her. But who is my enemy?
The latest episode of Matchalatte is a bit shorter. Lisa feels gloomy with all the political developments, and I had to put up with period pain and all the symptoms that come with it. But we gave it our all, we’re chatting about favorite movies and about a meditation book – and if you want to know how these things go together check out our brand new episode of Matchalatte.
We’re now also on itunes, by the way!!
Question of the week:
What was the last good movie you watched?
