Beautiful from the Inside

Anzeige

True beauty, as we all know, comes from the inside. This is true in the most literal sense. All attributes and traits we consider classically beautiful are far removed from anything you could achieve with makeup. They are the result of a balanced diet, sufficient exercise, a healthy amount of rest and sleep – all factors that contribute to our physical appearance. This means that beauty is not tied to the use of beauty products, it is rather deeply linked to our relationship with our bodies and our lifestyles. „An old hat“, some of you may think… but this particular truth is a perspective of wisdom we may be aware of without actually integrating it into our daily lives. I speak from experience here. And that despite the fact that these inner factors make us beautiful regardless of our age, and regardless of the brand of cosmetics we use. I‘d like to share with you some aspects that become increasingly important for me in this respect.

A balanced diet is crucial

A balanced diet is absolutely central to beauty. This does not necessarily mean a strict regime of calory counting, though. Quite on the contrary, in fact! A healthy variety of ingredients and generally varied diet are always an important aspect, for the simple reason that no single ingredient contains all the nutrients the human body needs. Broadly speaking, there are a few ingredients which should form part of every diet. The intake of sufficient fruit and vegetables, for example, is key. Following the rule of thumb of„5 a day“, this ideally means three portions of fruit and two of vegetables per day. Equally, carbs, fats, protein, fibers and mineral nutrients are crucial in a healthy diet, vegetarian or carnivore. Our immune system relies on all of the above components to function at full capacity, and our skin – more precisely our epidermis – reflects what we eat quite clearly and rather directly.

The epidermis is the outermost layer of our skin, and it has the capacity to completely renew itself within just one month – if it is supplied with sufficient nutrients. We provide these nutrients through the food we eat, which in turn means that it‘s not only important how much but also what we eat.

Let‘s take easily digestible carbs as a case in point: they provide a quick rush of our blood sugar level, which prompts the body to release insulin, which in turn helps the cells to absorb the sugar. The consequence is a stimulation of cell growth, which then leads to an expansion of the sebaceous glands – skin impurities are the result. If a clean skin is important to you, you should definitely keep an eye on a balanced diet in daily life. Also, make sure to drink enough. Water really is the elixir of life!

Keep Moving!

Apart from a balanced diet, regular exercise is another factor not to be underestimated. No matter how full the agenda, it‘s always possible to cover some trips by foot or bike. The result? A mere 30 to 60 minutes of moderate physical activity per day increases your body awareness and well-being significantly. Moreover, if you manage to go the the gym frequently, visit exercise classes or, like me, if you enjoy the occasional run in the park and stick to your HIIT workout, you‘ll not only be fitter overall, you‘ll also find your skin cleans up considerably. While many people consider sweat unpleasant, it is one of the most powerful antidotes to impure skin. So, if you sweat artwork out regularly, you‘re improving your whole body and – specifically – also your skin. Just please make sure you‘re not wearing makeup during exercise.

4. The Perfect Amount of Sleep

The amount of sleep we need can vary quite drastically from person to person. While five hours are enough for some of us, others are barely able to get up after a full ten hours. The reason? Our individual sleep requirement is genetically predetermined. In other words, the ‚right amount of sleep‘ is a highly individual concept. Personally, I find it depends very much on the day. Sometimes I need 9 hours after a tough week, on other days 7 hours are sufficient. But on average, I do try to get 8 hours of sleep. We all have an in-built optimum that we should try to acknowledge by allowing for the rest we need. Lack of sleep leads to a broad range of serious consequences. What it can mean for our skin? Wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, dryness and reduced elasticity. With that in mind, I highly recommend that you analyze how much sleep is ideal for you, and, if possible, that you establish this individual, perfect sleeping rhythm in your life. A new mattress can help, but also meditation.

Relaxation: Less Is More

Apart from oxidative stress, cause for example by UV light or smoke, emotional stress – something we all know – is considered not only a psychological burden, but also a threat to our skin. Stress accelerates the aging process in your skin, and leads to wrinkles. Naturally, the cosmetics industry has long capitalized on this, and the market is full with products that promise stress relief for your skin. But once again, you can only get to the root of this problem by tackling it inside yourself. Your own attitude ad individual lifestyle choices are key here! You should always be aware how much stress is healthy for you, and when you start to overstretch your boundaries. The simple truth is that sometimes less is more. And if it all gets too much again, Flowletics will help you to find your balance again.

Never forget the Me-Time!

And since we talk about relaxation: a big and regular helping of self-love and self-care is absolutely essential. What I mean by that? Take time for yourself, at least once or twice a week! A facial massage may be a nice treat, to relax your muscles and stimulate the circulation of blood in your body, or maybe you run yourself a hot bath with soothing salts. Even if your day is super busy. No matter what your personal preference is, if it helps you to relax and feel well in your skin, I‘m confident it will have a positive and lasting effect on your body and mind.
