Whether we’re talking beauty or skin care, we all have our favorite brands and products that we have been using for quite some time, that we trust, and that we happily invest in over and over again. I think our propensity towards habits is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand it is nice to have a routine, to bank on products that we know they just do what they’re supposed to, but it also means that we often muss out on new items and niche products – which often are a much more exciting choice!   With that in mind, when premium online perfumery Flaconi asked me whether I’d be up for a collaboration and which product category would be interesting for me I knew straight away I wanted to introduce some niche products.   There are few perfume stores out there that offer as wide a range of products as Flaconi, which stocks major names and smaller, more independent brands. In short, I was totally up for trying something different, and the opportunity was handed to me on a silver platter, or, well, maybe in a flask. I was motivated to break out of my habits, and on top of that I’m always hugely intrigued by small, undiscovered labels and products, as I feel those smaller enterprises often put more conscious care into their individual products than larger brands would be able to. Said and done, I embarked on a mission into niche product territory and packed a whole bunch of items by labels into my checkout basked which I may have heard of at some point or other, but which I did not have a clear opinion on.   Among them were for example Maison Margiela, Grown Alchemist, gegengift and a whole selection of other, supremely interesting labels. So the size of my basket grew swiftly, and I found myself with a wide range of products for which the description had convinced me, and which were now awaiting some thorough testing by yours truly.

Flaconi is a premium online perfumery stocking exclusive beauty products and perfumes. Whatever your beauty heart craves, you’ll find it here!

gegengift: Detox 5-Phasen-Set Let’s start with the German brand gegengift. The label was founded with the vision to develop products for people who live intense daily lives but nevertheless aim to take care of their spiritual and physical health. The clue is in the name, really: the whole range is conceived to be a modern, pleasant and easily applicable equivalent to measures like, say, a detox-treatment. Every product is infused with an effective 5 phase detox system packing 46 antioxidants, important vitamins and minerals. Moreover, the entire gegengift line of products is vegan, free from animal cruelty and made in Germany – what more could you ask for? For my first test run I chose a whole package, namely the “Detox 5 Phase Set” which consists of cleansing gel, cleansing milk, face cream, tea and detox capsules – the whole 9 yards, in other words! Charwhite: Natural Teeth Whitener Some of you will probably roll their eyes when you realize that this product is actually a teeth whitener. But let me defuse the situation straight away: Charwhite is a natural teeth whitener based on active substances like activated coconut carbon and organic peppertmint. The product is free of artificial chemical substances. Basically, it’s a wholesome product pre-empting and countering the daily sins of caffeine, teaine and red wine, which all too often leave their traces on the enamel of our teeth, adding a tinge of yellow even the brightest smile. Apart from eing a teeth whitener, the Charwhite product also cleanses your teeth tenderly. Plus, it is vegan and is not tested on animals. All in all a nice concept that I can really get behind. Ileur: Gold Luminosity I’m always happy to hear when a local, Berlin based brand makes waves, so I didn’t have to think long before adding a product by Ileur to my basket. And not just any product, mind you, I went for a hyaluron serum with gold particles. The fine texture of the product practically melts into your skin, moisturizes it and gives it an even, radiant glow. Hyaluron props up the skin from within and reduces pore sizes, whereas gold has smoothening, tightening properties. Gold Luminosity also packs the highly concentrated effectiveness of sulphur, mangosteen and silver, which protects the skin from free radicals. What a crazy combination, right?   But on top of all that, all products are free of perfume and colorants, they are not tested on animals and are also free of parabenes and silicons. The result? The skin is soothened and pampered (especially on dry days) – all done by a serum without using any additional creams on top. Get the product HERE

Lord & Berry: Eraser Pencil You probably all recognize this problem: you’re already late, but neither your hair nor your make-up is done yet, so you hastily reach for the most important tools for a swift basic make-up job so you can leave the house without having to hide behind huge sunglasses. So far, so good. Unfortunately, it is in those moments when we’d most need a steady hand that we usually don’t have it, and the result is the all too familiar mascara accident and stray splash of color on parts of the face it was never meant to land on. The next step in that frustrating sequence is wiping and cleaning, making everything worse, followed by admitting that a clean slate is needed and all the make-up needs to come off again before you start anew (or, if you’re really out of time at that point, you reach for the sunglasses after all).   Well, I found a product on my Flaconi shopping spree that immediately captivated my attention, acutely aware as I am of how often I end up in the scenario candidly described above. Anything that promises a future with less hassle has my attention. This particular product is the “Ultimate Touch” pen by Lord & Berry, which is designed to remove unintended make-up lines and smeared areas totally hassle-free, Just apply it to the area that needs fixing using a small, circular motion and – voilá – the desaster is reversed. It’s basically a rubber for make-up! I’m completely won over by the principle, what about you? Grown Alchemist: Hand Wash & Hand Cream Grown Alchemist is one of those brands that not only convince with their active substances but also with the packaging, which in the case of Grown Alchemist is always on fleek! In fact, the brand’s soap and hand cream match my bathroom interior quite perfectly now – and the combination of products convinces well beyond the visual treat. The hand gel smells pleasantly of sweet orange, it cleanses, detoxes and nurtures, all at the same time, and the cream moisturizes and perfectly rounds off the care package for your hands. Grown Alchemist: Detox Night Cream Some prefer their facial routines in the morning, others in the evening. If your part of the latter group, I have the ultimate tip for you – soap and hand cream were not the only products by Grown Alchemist which made it into my basket. The Australian brand also convinced me with its tender night creams and their regenerating and detoxifying properties. In fact, this particular cream has become something like me nightly anti-aging cream. Grown Alchemist work on the assumption that there is a biological and physiological link between beauty and health, and based on that understanding the company chooses all of the active substances in its products based on their properties to optimize skin functioning and to improve the overall appearance of skin that way. Maison Margiela Replica: Filter Glow & Lazy Sunday Morning We are used to new perfume brands being launched on the market all the time these days. Which makes it really unsurprising that so many scents smell alike, and so many concepts appear virtually indistinguishable. But that makes it all the more exciting when you find a product that actually stands out with a scent or effects that you have never encountered before in quite the same way.   That’s how I felt when I discovered the Replica line by Maison Margiela. I was aware that the French fashion house had been on a mission to conquer the beauty world for quite some time now, but somehow I had not heard yet that Maison Margiela has expanded its line of 10 fragrances called “Replica” with two new notes, “Repica Glow” and “Replica Blur”, which are designed as layering partners for the 10 scents of the line. See, layering is no longer restricted to the fashion world, there is a growing awareness that scents can be combined as well and – when done right – to beautiful effect! First you apply the Replica filter (in my case “Replica Glow”), then you add one of the Replica scents. I think this is a really great idea, and it means that with 10 notes and 2 filters you can create up to 20 experiences. Luxe Studio: Oval Brush I don’t know how many brushes you, dear readers, have in your beauty cupboard, I only know I have quite a lot of them. One for the eyeshadow, one for the powder, one for the rouge… and that’s only the beginning, the basic setup so to speak! So, with one brush per product the selection tends to grow and grow, even though many brushes should be compatible with a range of other products and applications as well. Luxe Studio had the same idea and developed a product for cosmetics and skin care: the brush for all applications! I tested the bestseller in the line and found a truly perfect use for it: this brush is ideal to apply (for example) self-bronzer easily and evenly. A real pro tip! Get the product HERE

Laura Gelleger: Filter Corrector Here’s a little secret tip for all the concealer fanatics among you! The filter corrector palette by Laura Gelleger is basically the all-round weapon of choice of concealers, offered in three different tones, each for a specific scenario. The peachy nuance is to conceal bags under the eyes, the blue tone helps to reduce reddish spots and the green can help with acne, rosacea and other impurities. Quite remarkably, every concealer has a distinct consistency: the blueish concealer is rather fluffy, while the green one has a much denser structure, which in turn increases the covering capacity. The three nuances complement each other perfectly, with great results whether they’Re used individually or in combination. Get the product HERE

Fazit: I was surprised to see how many undiscovered labels there still are out there, many of which deserve far more attention. This is particularly true for fair labels that put great effort and a conscious approach into the choice of their active substances. If you’re looking for labels that are specialized on certain products, look no further than Flaconi. I was really won over by the Margiela line of fragrances, Ileur and the products by Grown Alchemist. And who would have imagined that the choice of vegan products with natural ingredients is so huge?   If this peakead your interest, I have great news for you: with the coupon code “MASHA” you’ll get 15% off of your purchase until 30.09. Happy shopping!
