My 30th Birthday Party

Anzeige

When I was a kid, I had a pretty concrete idea what my 30 year old self would be like. I would have at least one child, better two. I would be married. I would have a place of my own, ideally a penthouse, in some beautiful city, of course. I would be an independent woman, grounded in my profession and life. After all, I’d be old at 30, wouldn’t I?

Later, in my early 20s, I was sometimes surprised to see 30 year olds in clubs or at parties. Weren’t they somehow too old for all this? These people always represented a different, more grown up species to me. That’s what I thought, anyways, until I turned 30 myself.

And today I feel like I’m in the full bloom of life, everything but old. Certainly not too old to celebrate. And that’s exactly what I did: I threw a party for my 30th birthday unlike anything I’ve ever done in my life. Who said you get tired of celebrations? I partied on two floors, with a crowd of 300, in a night with the theme

RED

The color of love, fire and passion.

The theme didn’t just include the dress-code, but also the decoration and especially the drinks, which were by Campari. We offered an Amalfi, the newcomer, as well as the classic: Negroni. Personally, my favorite was the Amalfi, which went straight to my list of favorite cocktails ever. I know exactly what I like, and no longer have to drink cheap vodka if it’s on offer – I throw entire rounds. Even if it’s for 300 people.

How to…

Amalfi

Ice cream in a wine glass
1 part Campari
2 parts Schweppes Bitter Lemon
1 splash of fresh grapefruit or grapefruit juice
Enjoy!

Negroni

1 part Campari
1 part Cinzano 1757 Vermouth
1 part Bulldog Gin
Ice & orange zest

Pour the ingredients into a tumbler filled with ice cubes as large as possible, stir thoroughly and garnish with an orange zest.

Here’s another advantage of having turned 30: I have found my own style at this point in life, and I can afford it. The Balmain dress I wore at my party, was the stuff of mere dreams not too long ago.
Being 30 is not so bad.

It’s true, I have no kids and am not married, I live in a great flat, but it’s rented, I’m on an interesting professional trajectory, but maybe I’d still have considered my current self a failure from the perspective of my childhood self. But being 30 also means I know better.

Thanks to all of you who came! This day was absolutely unforgettable, probably the most beautiful birthday I ever had. I feel deeply blessed and very lucky just thinking about it.
Special thanks goes to the sponsors that helped make this evening possible, first and foremost Campari, who supported me with the whole operation, Adobe, who installed the coolest Photobox in the world, Proviant, Vöslauer and Coconut water for the all-important non-alcoholic drinks, Wheadon Berlin for the beautification and, of course, to my entire team, who made all of this possible. THANK YOU!
