‘I need to get out of here.’
I remember exactly the moment when I said these words to my friend, eyes wide open and full of stress, the voice breaking, desperate.
‘I really need to get out of here’,I said again, trying to drive home the point that I was serious.
I’m not usually someone to run away from problems, but I do have moments when I feel it all gets too much, moments where one last drop in a full bucket makes it overflow. There is no remedy, no cure, all I need then is a little break. We should really take these breaks in those moments when the world seems to swallow us up whole.
Sometimes its the job, sometimes its Berlin, and sometimes I just need to get out.
I feel like escaping, switching off my brain, stare into the void and think of nothing. I want to get in the car, turn up the music full blast and drive, drive, drive.
Earlier in my life I used to avoid car rides whenever possible. That has changed completely for me this year. I went on road trips through California, Nevada and Iceland, and I can’t wait for the next one. You get to see so much of your surroundings, you can always stop whenever it takes your fancy, you can take in the landscape as you glide through it, thinking of nothing, as you rack up kilometer after kilometer on roads that never end. Why, I thought to myself, shouldn’t I do that more often in Germany as well?
High up on my list of places that I always wanted to see is the Gespensterwald (‘ghost forest’) on the East Sea. I found out about this mysterious place by accident on Instagram, and made an instant resolution to go and visit it as soon as I’d get the chance. I want to stand between those spooky trees while the wind whips the ocean into a frenzy. Thought, said and done. I am lucky to have a car at my disposal, a DS 3 to be exact. And you may have one too, really, really soon! Say what? Yes, you hear right, I have the honour to make one of you, dear readers, happy and give you a DS 3 for a 6 full months in today’s prize draw! I am testing the car myself right now, and it’s just the best thing to be able to leave town spontaneously to clear the head and enjoy some tranquility on the countryside – far away from Berlin, where reality and my duties always catch up with me.
My cruiser is just awesome. It has the perfect size for the city, looks both cool and elegant (mine is white, with a brown bracelet leather interior – very, very stylish!). It’s the perfect match for me and Berlin right now, and on top of it a car that is so comfortable, reliable and spacious that long distances are a joy to travel. Another obvious advantage is the car’s integrated connectivity, which makes it super easy to play back the music from my phone in the car. Driving and singing along to loud music, a match made in heaven, and my favorite way to cruise.
So, here I am, cruising out of the city and up north. Amazing how fast this little baby got me up to the North Sea.
‘We have to do this more often’.
Up here, in the north, my problems suddenly feel very small against the wide open landscape. I take a deep breath, suck in the cool air, let it fill my lungs. We decide to drive on, along the coast, to put more and more distance between us and Berlin. Accelerating, I feel free. I could ride on forever. It’s true what they say:
the journey is the reward.
And for all of you who fell in love with my stylish cruiser now, here’s how you enter the draw:
The price is a DS 3 or DS 3 convertible, which will be yours for the period of 6 months!
Everyone who has their main residence in Germany is eligible to apply, the only other prerequisite is a Class B driving license.
And here’s what you need to do:
– Just post a comment with your e-mail address in the comment section (don’t worry, your mail address will not be publicly visible), and let me know which of your favorite places you would love to drive to with the car.
Good luck and fingers crossed!
