Have a happy advent!
Can you believe that it’s already the third Sunday of the Advent today? How fast do the days go by? Time is really running through our fingers, and now it’s only a few more days until Christmas. I’m in full on festive mode by now, and have spent the whole week decorating my flat.
Generally speaking, I was really busy this week, I’m trying to cross off as many items of my to-do list as possible before the end of the year. Each of these items is a weight that I want to shed to be able to start the new year light and fresh. I want to realize so many amazing projects next year, and I’m going to need all my energy for them.
This week, the impressions I shared from my bedroom seemed to have been particularly popular with you, my dear readers. Maybe I should do more interior posts? Could be an interesting development on the blog for next year….
We’ll continue with the festivities on the blog for a few more days. I shot a round of photos with Fee in Hotel Zoo, and am sharing a little teaser with this post here. The rest of the series will follow, hopefully really soon. I also have a make-up tutorial for you – I know, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Plus, I’ll post a bunch of pics that I felt like sharing with you for quite a while but never got around to.
The biggest highlight next week will be a personal one: my family will come to visit me! Instead of flying to my parents, as would be the tradition, my parents come to me! I can’t tell you how awesome I think that is. Probably explains why I’m so extra excited about the holiday this year and why I put so much effort into decorating the flat. I am SO happy they’re coming :)
I noticed that many Youtuber are complaining that Google has changed its algorithm with the result that many Youtuber suffer from a massive decline in video clicks and fewer new subscribers. Or, as Kelly MissesVlog puts it in classic click-bait phrasing: ‘my Youtube career is over’. Did we mention that Youtubers love drama?
Honestly, I’m struggling to take all of that seriously. Everyone has milked the Youtube cash-cow, and now everyone is complaining that the cow is starting to make decisions about when and to whom it will give milk. Are you really surprised? The first round of Youtubers seems to be taking the ‘no big deal’ approach, and changes the medium. For the first time we’ll have a Youtuber in the jury of DSDS (the German version of The X Factor). The show and the new jury member are a perfect match, if you ask me: so much plastic surgery before she even turned 22, and now she gets to sit next to Dieter Bohlen (the German counterpart to Simon Cowell).
This development actually makes me surer than ever that it makes sense to work the way I do, with a blog. Even though the average blog has a much more limited reach than big Youtube channels, you’re not subject to algorithms that can cut you off from your audience and make you question the point of life from one day to the other.
One thing makes me curious: Youtubers have done literally everything to get more followers (embarrassing challenges, pranks, every conceivable kind of tutorial), the question now seems to be where to go from here, now that it’s become more difficult than ever to grow your follower numbers. From what I hear the first Youtubers are already starting to shed their clothes…
I know, i know, you shouldn’t throw stones sitting in a glass house, but I have to say I’m really quite annoyed by the wave of Advent Calendars that has washed over blogs and Instagram accounts everywhere. They’re inescapable! It’s all give-aways, sweepstakes, prize-draws. Win this, win that. Am I alone or do you also notice it much more strongly this year? I get the feeling some blogs have turned into lottery platforms. I am SO happy I decided to not do it this year!
I much prefer to to a give-away once in a while, during the busy festive season and also at other points during the year. It’s just tiring to cram everything into 24 days and to bombard readers with it. I am really totally over-saturated by the wave of give-aways and product placements, I wish I could delete all that stuff from my feeds. I understand the intentions and positive thoughts behind it, but it’s just all getting a bit too much. Do you agree?
