my goals for 2019

Anzeige

After looking back in my last contributions and taking stock, I want to look forward in this contribution – to the coming year 2019. I read in a book by Norman Doidge that once we reach a certain age it becomes more difficult for us to access and process information, largely because we stop learning new things and because our routines become calcified. In other words, the brain is no longer challenged and nurtured enough. The same is often true for our bodies: we only stay flexible if we move our individual body parts. That’s why it’s so important to keep learning new things, to not settle too comfortably in any kind of routine, and, basically, to keep moving. Setting goals is crucial in that respect, and a necessary component of staying in shape – physically as well as mentally.

To formulate goals in the time between the years when everything has become calmer and more relaxed is more easy for me. Only then I can really think about the year and formulate goals for the next year, which I then pursue with the greatest motivation. Some of them I succeed in at the end of the year, others not. In one year we will know, but first I will tell you about my intentions for next year.

Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach.

Being a vegetarian.
This year I gradually stopped eating meat, and I hope to stick with it this year and adopt a fully vegetarian lifestyle. I’d also like to reduce my consumption of eggs an dairy products, and to rely on meat substitute products as little as possible. “Scientists assume that it takes at least three years for new dietary habits to stabilize”, which means the road is still long for me. I’m positive, though, and pretty convinced I’ll manage to become a full-on vegetarian this year.

I’d like to run a half-marathon.
Yes, you heard that right. Since I started running this year I have reached a personal record of 10 kilometers in under an hour. So, ambitious as I am, I now have my mind set on a half-marathon. That’s right, I’m really serious about running. That said, I noticed that application for the half-marathon in Berlin seems to be closed already. Anyone have any ideas how I can still get a ticket? PS: Another surprising insight: you actually need to pay to run at an event. In my mind that’s just not right.

I’d like to show more social commitment.
I have shown social commitment on several occasions this year, and tried to use my voice in meaningful ways for a good purpose, be it to raise awareness for certain issues or to take a clear political stand. This year I hope to go a step further with my social commitment. I feel particularly strongly about the issue of education. I believe that education is the key to independence, not only for the individual but for societies as a whole. I’m not quite sure about the scope of my commitment yet, but one thing is certain: I have had the privilege to enjoy so much luxury in my life, I’d like to give something back.

I’d like to finally clean out – for real
I’m cleaning out my old stuff quite frequently, but what to do with what I don’t need anymore? Part of it I sell, part of it I give away, and part of it I’d like to offer up on the flea-market, especially household items and bric-a-brac. I really, r e a l l y want to make it to Mauerpark flea-market once next year – as a vendor!

I’d like to go more with the Flow
… and that’s something I’m super confident I’ll be able to achieve. Ever since I support my boyfriend with his app “Flowletics” I notice a marked change in my own ability to handle stress, to focus and to stay concentrated. I’m planning to expand my influence in this project this year, maybe by getting psychologists, flow experts etc. together, maybe even by creating a special program of my own to help me to stay optimistic in times of social media and co. I have a feeling this entire strand of activity will be among the most exciting in 2019.

Explore exotic locations
I’d like to travel again in the new year. But where? There are plenty of locations on the map I’d still like to visit. Some destinations seem overly familiar even if I’ve never been there, for others there are barely even any pics on the net. I have a history of venturing off the beaten track, and I’d like to do so again. What’s up net for me, travel wise? I’m not sure yet, but I know it won’t be your typical Instagram Mecca.

I’d like to start a product line of my own
The design process I was a partof this year made me realize how much of a task it is to create a product line. It’s really not at all easy to establish a product line, but I’ve had this one idea in my mind for many years now, and 2019 may be the year to finally bring it into life.

A big birthday party
I’m turning 30! In a way I can’t quite believe that my age will start with a 3 soon, but I’m planning to make the most of it, and I’m definitely planning to enter my thirties with a huge party! We’ll see if it works out the way I envision it right now… I still have three months to plan and organize it all.

So these are my goals for 2019, in a nutshell.
What do you think, am I forgetting anything crucial?
What are our resolutions for the new year?
Do you have a bunch of small goals, or that one, big project you’d like to take on?
