What helps against less firm skin?

Skin aging is not a central issue for me yet by any stretch, but I do sometimes wonder: what can I do today to look fresh and young in 20 years? Or at least in 10? The fact that a well-groomed appearance is a key factor of success in my job makes this quite a natural process.   I am quite critical of the obsession with youth in our industry and am planning to age with dignity, but I will say that I think hanging skin sucks and I hope to avoid it for as long as possible.

So what to do?

A great tip is to support the hyaluronan balance in your skin. Hyaluronan regulates the moisture in skin, but it dissolves extremely fast, which is why it makes sense to nurture the skin from an early stage in that respect. The older we get, the less hyaluronan our body produces. In other words: hyaluronan steadily decreases in your skin, and the process starts in the early to mid twenties. The effects are essentially an early onset of skin aging: coarse skin and a lack of firmness.   In my case, I especially noticed the decreasing firmness of my skin. Just 2 years ago my skin was perfect. Now it appears that my skin impurities have increased, probably due to changes in the hormonal balance, and I notice that my skin is less firm than it used to be.

The scary bit is that it is a very gradual process, barely noticeable in the beginning. The skin submits more and more to the force of gravity, but it is not necessarily noticeable until that moment you see an old photo of yourself and realize how much you have in fact changed. The process of realization may be a little less gradual in my case, as I see myself on pictures every day, but that makes it no less frustrating to see that time does not spare me either.   All that said, I am still young and I do have the option of nurturing my skin and to fend off skin aging for a bit longer, and as they say, prevention is better than cure.

The H.A. Intensifier by Skinceuticals, which supports the skin’s own hyaluronan balance, is a veritable little magic potion when it comes to protection against premature skin ageing. The problem is that while hyaluronan is an effective moisturizing agent, its molecules are way to large for optimum absorption by the skin (probably good to know reading all these claims of ‘with hyaluronan’ on so many product packages).   Skinceuticals developed an active substance formula which combines the long-term moisturizing of the skin, a 10% proxylane content and an optimum concentration of licorice root extract as well as purple rice extract.

Active agents: Proxylane is a substance with the property of triggering as well as stimulating the synthesis between mucopolysaccharides (MPS) in dermis and epidermis in order to support the hyaluronan balance of the skin. This makes the skin smoother and more firm.   Licorice root is a herbal active agent with anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative and anti-micro-biotic properties. For those reasons the substance is often used in after-sun lotions as well, as its positive effects on the skin are very gentle.   Purple rice extract is another herbal agent rich in vitamins, proteins, iron, calcium, zinc and other elements. The substance offers natural UV protection and retains moistures, i.e. protects the skin from drying out, which makes it a real insider tip in natural cosmetics. The extract also gives the serum its color.

SkinCeuticals is a company I generally trust very much, as my past experiences have been very positive indeed. It is not necessarily one of the most ‘fancy’ brands dabbling in everything – the company has a real focus on professional skin care products, which are created based on scientific grounds, often with patented substances. The active agents tend to be highly concentrated and pure, which facilitates absorption. In other words, Skinceuticals creates state of the art products, and the brand is in fact often recommended by dermatologists and plastic surgeons and is in wide use in spas, which, if you ask me, is a great sign. You can buy Skinceuticals products in select pharmacies and online.

  3. Superinteressant. Ich kenne A.H.A. Säure – von H.A.
