I love having a unique signature style, but I also enjoy to integrate current trends and to make them my own. Trends inspire me and sometimes pose welcome challenges. ‘How would I combine this with my style?’ I’m not jumping on every bandwagon, of course, but this summer in particular there are loads of trends I really like. So, doing what I do, I combined five of them in one single outfit. Curious which trends I am talking about?

Stripes I LOVE stripes. Seriously, I am actually obsessed with stripes and check patterns (which are also stripes, in a manner of speaking). They’re pretty much the only patterns I just can’t get enough of. One of the outfits I am most comfortable in consists of jeans, slippers and a striped shirt. I can always rely on that one, and tend to fall back on it when I don’t really know what else to wear. The combination alwys works! In the outfit I am showing you, I mix up the concept a little and add stripes on a bag instead of on a shirt or blazer. The bag is a real statement and definitely an eye-catcher, but with its classic combination of colors – white, marine blue and red – it goes really well with most outfits.

Statement Shirts The motto-shirt comes back every couple of years, and I always welcome it. In general, shirts with prints are just classic – especially if you pick designs that you won’t get tired of quickly. In an ideal case, you buy vintage. Mine isn’t vintage per se, but it brings up associations of football shirts and cool dudes, and the slogan on the shirt just sums me up so perfectly.

Athleisure 3 I already wrote about this trend once, it’s perfect for Berlin: a sporty, but at the same time stylish every-day look – that’s Athleisure in a nutshell. The shirt and sneakers add a certain athletic factor, the skirt makes the whole outfit sexy. Sneakers are super trendy right now, and I haven’t seen it embraced as warmly as in Berlin anywhere else. People really go for it here. It’s no surprise, really, considering that Berlin is a city that makes you walk quite a lot. Of course we like comfy shoes. But it’s still amazing to see what a long way sporty sneakers have come over the years – they work on the pitch, in the gym, and even for business meetings.

Vinyl I am so happy that lacquer is in fashion again – it means the full range of fashion items is available again. I always stuck with the style, nice to see everyone coming around to it again. The lacquer and patent leather trend returns every couple of years, and I welcome it like an old friend that came to visit for a few days. Like that friend, lacquer also usually stays only for brief periods, but when it’s here it has my full attention and commitment. It’s a little risqué, and associations of red-light districts etc are a danger that have to be avoided with care, but in the right combination and dressed down properly even the most provocative patent leather skirt can be a suitable and stylish component of an every-day outfit.

Colorful sunglass-lenses We see the world in color again, sunglasses with colored lenses are back! I had my first colored sunglasses 15 years agi! It was a huge trend back in the day, and I amassed quite a few very cool models when I was 13, in pink, yellow, blue, everything. They’re back!! And you know what’s the best thing about this trend? You actually see the world completely differently! Everything can seems much warmer (yellow and orange) or cooler (blue and purple). So much more interesting and fun than seeing everything darker as with black and brown lenses. I wish I’d never have to take mine of and could always see the world through rose-colored glasses. Thumbs up from my side for this trend, I’m ready for a colorful summer!

Hi Masha,

Whatever I do, I just cannot get into statement shirts. I find them funny on a rack and embarrassing on me…
I know what you mean :D
Maybe you just need the right one for you :)
Tatsächlich ein mega trendy Outfit! Und Du hast mich jetzt inspiriert, meine Veja Sneakers genau so zu tragen, danke :)
