I love spending time at home – especially now that it is so cold outside. Makes being inside all the more cosy. I’m sometimes really struggling to leave the flat! I love my flat to bits, even more so no that I lived in it for a little while. It’s a perfect shelter for these winter days!
I didn’t always enjoy the cold season, in fact I often struggled with winter as a whole, you know, the prospect of not being able to do much outside and to be confined to the inside. Not a big deal, of course, I always enjoyed being home. But my current flat really is the best setup ever, and I appreciate and enjoy that a lot.
So this is my first winter in this flat. How glad I am that I moved! Remember that I told you I’m going to take my time with furnishing everything? I stuck by my resolution and did everything really carefully and without rushing. All the rooms look and feel very different now that everything is pretty much complete.
Sure, there are still a few details missing here and there, but on the whole it’s all perfect as it is. My flat is almost cosy to a fault, sometimes I wish I wouldn’t have to get out of bed in the morning, let alone leave the flat.
I consciously went for darker, more subdued colors in our bedroom. The centerpiece is the huge box spring bed by Home24. The ensemble is completed by a comfy reading corner and a make-up table. Initially I had difficulties finding the right color for the walls, but eventually I decided on a sage green tone – the perfect choice, at least in my opinion!
Generally speaking, I tried to avoid aggressive and dominant colors to give my eyes the chance to rest a little after a long day. I also combined various textiles and materials, like you see with my bed for example. Leather, wool and fur all have their place in the harmonious whole. The plants cleanse the air, and as far as wall decoration goes I decided that less would be more.
I also took a minimal approach to lighting. We do have a ceiling lamp, that we snatched up on a flea-market once, but I actually prefer indirect lighting and usually switch on the lamps next to the bed and the chair, which tinges the whole room in a really comfortable and relaxing light – perfect to go to bed to.
As you see (and read), a lot of thought went into designing and arranging the bedroom. After all, it’s often the room we spend most of our time in – even if it’s not always consciously lived time. All the more important to feel comfortable in it!
Bonus tip: I swear in bedsheets made of linen!
Cat hair sticks much less to linen than to man other textiles, and it’s amazing to sleep on :) !
