This column is sort of established by now, and the feedback from you guys has been very positive. The Monthly Favorites seem to get a much better echo than the Beauty Favorites used to, which is all the reason to keep it going. This month I had some difficulties deciding which favorites to pick. With some items I wasn’t sure, with others I knew I needed to include them straight away. What I ended up with is a colorful mix, not much from the Beauty segment at all this month, but loads of interesting and useful tools. I hope you get inspired :)
Favorite jacket: Monki ‘I’m dressed up as a wolf today’, is my standard response when someone comments on my coat. It’s true, in a way. Well, no sheep or other animal had to die for it, but the coat’s artificial fur looks deceptively real and feels super-duper cosy. There’s another reason why it’s my favorite coat: not only is it a beautiful piece of clothing and super stylish with the perfect length, I also associate it with the most positive memories from Iceland, where it protected me from wind and weather. Looks like I’m not the only one who likes this coat, it has sort of become a bit of a general favorite in the blogger scene and is hugely popular on Instagram as well, even among bloggers that usually sport exclusively high-price garments. And if you suspect that this is all the result of a clever marketing strategy, you’re wrong. There’s no campaign behind this piece, it’s simply a successfully designed and affordable coat. The perfect companion for winter.
Favorite boots: Christian Louboutin
I always wanted to have a pair of Louboutins, but I was all too aware of the reputation they have for being uncomfortable to wear, so I didn’t really push it. Until I found this particular pair. No one will tell me these Louboutins are uncomfortable – on the contrary! They’re made of super-soft leather, fit my feet like gloves, look timeless and cool, have a sole with profile, and yes, they’Re red! In my wardrobe, these shoes are the perfect supplement to my Givenchy boots. They look great with skirts and trousers. I love my Louboutins so much I wanna take them to bed with me.
Favorite book: Passage Trilogy by Justin Cronin This book was a tip a reader posted under my last audiobook post – and I am very thankful indeed. I haven’t finished it all yet, but I really love how the plot is structured so far, how visual the descriptions are and how great the story is in general. I’m sure someone will snatch up the film rights in no time. In a nutshell, it’s about a girl who tries to save the world from a deadly virus, sort of a mix between Resident Evil and Walking Dead – but with much more depth and phantasy. A wonderfully suspenseful dystopian novel![parallax-scroll id=”39732″]
Favorite Tool: Phillips Hue lamps I was pretty skeptical when I received these lamps, after all, what could such a gadget be useful for in my life? It took me a couple of days to finally unpack them, but once I plugged them in it was instant love. I have six light sources in my flat right now, and this tool allows me to easily control them all from my phone, from where I can also adjust the light mood and color via WIFI. This is sooo awesome, coming home and switching al lights in my house on and off at the swipe of a finger. It’s also super useful for switching off the lights when I’m in bed and don’t feel like getting up again. I really wouldn’t want to miss this in my life anymore.
Favorite location: massage studio Wanvaree The other day I was lying on a massage bench and suddenly realized I never told you about this location, despite the fact that its my favorite place to be of all. If you read my blog regularly you may know that I get a massage pretty much every week, since a couple of years now. I’m often extremely tense, probably unsurprisingly given that I’m under constant pressure and have very little time to chill and relax. At some point I decided to treat myself to a massage, and what can I say, I never looked back. An hour of relaxation, time for myself, real quality time. Whenever I can’t make it to my weekly massage I find myself in a bad mood, poor physical shape and mentally imbalanced. Back when I arrived in Berlin I looked intensively for a studio that lives up to my specific expectations: not too expensive, in a central location, clean and offering good, intense massages for big girls. After testing out a couple of studios I finally discovered Wanvaree, which I would like to recommend to all of you girls with all my heart. The therapists at Wanvaree massage you the way you like it, also strongly with elbows and feet if you wish, set your bones and your entire body straight and charge only 50 EUR per hour, which is more than fair. Plus, you get a tasty self-made ginger tee after the session. I always walk on clouds when I come out of the studio. You know that deep sense of wholesome, blissful relaxation? That’s how they make me feel! These girls are my personal local heroes, and still a bit of a secret tip in town!!
Favorite concealer: YSL Touche Eclat The Touche Eclat is a real classic among concealers, and has been one of my absolute favorite products for quite a while now. It covers really well, yet reflects light and merges perfectly with my skin color. It’s pretty much invisible, and that’s the most important property a concealer can offer and the highest compliment you can pay it. On top of it I really love the packaging: it’s all glimmer and sparkle, which makes the concealer a real gem and a dazzling highlight in your bathroom!
Favorite make up: BB Water from Smashbox I’m not a huge fan of heavy foundations or make-ups, I usually prefer light coverage. My skin is not perfect by any means, but I think it’s kind of disgusting to cover it in tons of make-up. Well, BB Creams are perfect in that sense. For the last couple of months I have actually been using an even lighter option: BB Water by Smashbox. It has a very liquid consistency, is easy to spread and looks super natural. Plus, it has nourishing proprties, protects the skin from UV radiation and on top of it acts as a moisturizer as well.
Favorite cream: Nutri-Filler from Filorga So far I can count myself lucky when it comes to my skin, no wrinkles in sight yet. Having said that, I do perceive the first signs of gradual skin aging. Filorga is one of the leading brands when it comes to research into the skin aging process, and the company has developed several cremes for different needs. My cream contains special nutrients which fill in wrinkles as well as soften, model and shape your skin.
Favorite accessoire: glasses by Rodenstock I started to wear glasses more often with my outfits, and it seems like you picked up on that already, seeing how often I was asked about a particular model on my photos. Initially I was pretty skeptical about the idea of wearing glasses with a metal frame, the memory of my first prescription glasses was triggered (hi Mom, yes I’m pointing my finger at you!), and, well, it wasn’t pretty. The thing was small and round and the metal frame was pink (what else could it be?). So it took me a while to overcome those negative associations and the emotional trauma attached to them. But here I am, I did it, and am proud to own this pale-gold model, with slightly larger glasses without being oversized. No sexy ‘secretary’ associations with this one, it’s just very, very elegant.
Favorite scent: Flowerbomb by Viktor & Rolf I found a new favorite scent this month: Flower Bomb by Viktor & Rolf. I already introduced the scent in a blogpost a short while ago, but I’m so hooked on it that I had to include it here once again. Unlike many other people, I don’t have a ‘go-to’ scent. I tend to experiment quite a bit, and usually go with the emotion of the moment. I guess this means I’ve been in a particularly positive mood recently, which was perfectly matched by the flowery oriental scent.
