„I go to the gym because I think my great personality could use a banging body“
I’ve been working on this text for such a long time and in the end I realized: Never ever am I going to be able to convince you that working out is so much fun and easy and all that jazz. That’s what they tell you everywhere and I have told this myself ways too often but couldn’t convince even myself.
That’s why this is definitely not going to be a post about “working out is so much fun, you just need the right outfit”, because as we all know that this is just an old trick and those of you who have followed me for a while know the truth: I hate working out.
I think there are two kinds of people: those who love sports and those who don’t. And well I just belong the second group.
No matter how often I tell myself working out is fun, I don’t feel it. I know there are people who adore it, people like my boyfriend. No work out is too extreme, no run is too hard for him. Well – and then there’s me.
I’ve been working out pretty regularly over the past three years, sometimes more intense, sometimes less, but at least I do it. I torture myself, because I don’t really enjoy myself, but have all possible feelings at once: stress, distress, frustration and pride, if I let go.
But enthusiasm? An extreme rush of endorphins? Never.
Sure, some of you may think that I still haven’t found the right kind of work out for me and who knows, maybe that’s true and the right workout that motivates me is waiting for me somewhere on this planet. But let me tell you: I have tried a lot. Sure, some work outs have been worse than others, but none of this makes me as happy like a whole bar of chocolate does.
So why do I force myself to work out even if I don’t like it? Because it’s important. And that’s exactly what it’s all about today. About your inner temptation.
I am not untrained – quite the opposite: actually I am not that bad, because I have accepted my truth: it’s not all about doing fun stuff in live, but also the things that are important for you. Working out is one of those things.
I don’t have to tell you that working out is important and that it makes you feel comfortable in your body and that you stay healthy. Secretly, we all know that, right? Working out will give you a better feeling for your body and will keep you fit as you get older and in the end this is much more important than a hot body.
Even though this is a nice little cherry on top. But firstly working out is important for your health, mentally and physically, which is prior. But as with many things in live, you don’t exactly practice what you preach.
But I will end this now.

Before you´re tellein yourself now “Yeah, Masha is right, I will start working out as well tomorrow” snacking on a chocolate bar, please note: sure, you can always put it off for tomorrow, but sometimes tomorrow becomes the day after tomorrow and the day after tomorrow becomes a “I should have done that yesterday”. And suddenly it’ too late, because tomorrow came earlier than expected.
How much stress and torture would you spare yourself if you had motivated yourself to do the right thing: to not eat the cake and go out and move instead of sitting on the couch watching series. Exactly.
The best thing about it: you don’t have to work out for two hours straight every day because nobody has time for that (me neither), but you can already hit your goals with spending like 30 minutes or even only 10 minutes a day on your work out. This is more effective than going to the gym once a week for hours. Science tells us that training regularly in moderation is much more effective than training irregularly but really hard. I personally schedule my training in my morning routine, so before really starting the day, I work out.
And guess what: it goes without saying that I don’t feel like it and would prefer to stay in bed instead, but no! Instead I get up and start moving without thinking about it.
It’s a question of mental strength and an indication of discipline.
Just don’t give up!
To be honest: if I can motivate myself almost every single day, you can do it as well. And it’s not a lie when a really sporty person smiles at you and tells you that “with time the training gets easier and the exercises will come from its own”. It drives me crazy whenever someone tells me that but it’s true: it gets easier, it keeps tiring, but your heart won’t burst after a couple of minutes. At least you can say: there will come a time when it’s not that bad anymore, but this takes a little while. So before today becomes tomorrow and tomorrow becomes the day after tomorrow, go pack your work out gear and train. No matter if at home, outside or in the gym. No matter if 10 minutes or 2 hours.
I could try and give you some tips how to make working out fun, but in my opinion there is only one thing people from the second group can do: pulling yourself together and doing it – or as Nike says: just do it
